LP1' features none of these previously released songs; instead each track on 'LP1' is brand new, born out of FKA twigs’ artistic philosophy of spontaneous creation and collaboration in the studio. I kept seeing this album on best-of lists and after reading some good things, finally gave it a try. Naturally the effects of the music are heightened when combined with Jesse Kanda's mind bending videos ("Water Me" especially) but late comers to the magic of Twigs will be all over this. The EP was re-released under the Young Turks label in Japan packaged with LP1 and as a standalone product in October 2016. I really love the production of this album (both in the physical copy of the material and the audio itself), the design from the packaging's album art to the graphic of the liner notes as well as the inside sleeves and the CD itself. i can see many reasons why this techno-repressed generation might dislike this performer, so let's not mess about. those of you with a few more years on the clock, will need less encouragement, knowing as you do what this marketplace is and always has been.

I did not enjoy it at first, as in some tracks I thought there were too many different sounds in the mix and to my mind it was not cohesive. Magdalene is produced by FKA Twigs and, as with LP1, the recording process has been directed by her at every stage. One thing is for sure, if she can come up with the same quality that is on display here, regardless of style, I am following into it! Microbeats, plucky harps and music boxes add to the vibrant prediction of this most contemporary and future-sounding album. This EP was the first instance of Barnett's ethereal vocals weaved in amidst production work from Arca that was at times floating, others crushingly pressurised.

FKA Twigs debut stands at a similar crossroads (IMO) whereby it will be influential from this point on. LP1 also features artwork from Jesse Kanda, who has manipulated his own photographs of twigs to stunning effect.It's an intoxicating brew, all told, and one that delivers further proof of Barnett's immense potential.
